Overkill

Overkill is the use of excessive force or action that goes further than is necessary to achieve its goal. For example, using a sledgehammer to crack a hazelnut, or shooting an ant with a rocket launcher would be considered overkill.

Overkill è un termine che trovo spesso estremamente efficace... e mi piace anche un sacco come suona!
Riesce mirabilmente a sintetizzare il concetto che vuole trasmettere e che, tristemente, è un difetto sempre più comune.
Perchè utilizzare AutoCAD per disegnare una griglia in un'immagine quando lo puoi fare altrettanto bene con Paint di Windows?
Perchè utilizzare un programma complicatissimo per creare una pagina web Flash quando quello che ti serve è un html statico che potresti scrivere con Notepad?
Perchè utilizzare un database Access per gestire la propria contabilità personale quando puoi fare tutto quello che ti serve con Excel... ed anche con Excel sei in pieno overkill?!?!

Io per primo soffro, informaticamente, di Overkill cronico, ma almeno, il più delle volte, lo faccio consapevolmente: la mia è sempre una scelta dovuta ad un conto.
"D'accordo, oggi potrà essere eccessivo, ma almeno è una cosa facile da fare con cui posso fare un po' di pratica per usare il programma... ed un giorno o l'altro potrebbe anche venirmi buono..."
Non è granchè consolatorio, lo ammetto, ma è pur sempre meglio che niente: almeno se qualcuno mi dovesse mai far notare che ho usato un bazooka per dare la caccia alle mosche potrò dire che è stata una mia scelta consapevole...

Overkill, oltre che una parola sempre più frequente nella mia esistenza, è anche una canzone che non mi dispiace affatto.
Beh, a dirla tutta è non solo "una" canzone: ce ne sono almeno un paio che si intitolano così, ma ce n'è una in particolare che mi piace... Si tratta di "Overkill" dei "Men at work", anche se la versione che mi piace è quella riarrangiata per la colonna sonora di Scrubs e cantata da Colin Hay, il cantante della band.
